Selection of PM Awas Yojana


  • Under this scheme, the selection/determination of beneficiaries will be done on the basis of the parameters reflecting the the housing deficit in SECC 2011 data, after which validation will be done by Gram Sabha.
  • Under the PM Gramin Awas Yojana List 2020, those beneficiaries will be selected in place of the BPL list according to SECC 2011 data for homeless families or those living in houses with one or 2 rough walls and mud ceilings.
  • Priority will be given to the first of the eligible beneficiaries on the basis of homeless families of each category such as SC, ST, Minorities and others and one or 2 raw rooms.
  • Under this scheme, houses of more than 1 or 2 rooms of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Caste, Minority and each such category of families will not be given priority.

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana


Under this scheme, the central government is providing financial assistance to the weaker sections of the rural areas to build their own pucca house and the government is also helping financially in making the old house permanent. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, the central government is providing financial assistance of Rs 120, 000 for construction of houses in plain areas and Rs 130, 000 for construction of houses in hilly areas to economically weaker families in rural areas.

Under this scheme, the government will provide 1 crore pucca houses to the desired beneficiaries by 2022. Under this scheme, the beneficiaries will be selected on the basis of the 2011 census. Through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana 2020, the funds given to the financially weaker families in rural areas to build pucca houses will be directly transferred to the bank account and with this amount people of rural areas can fulfill their dream of making their home. 

Cost of Gramin Awas Yojana


The total cost for construction of 1 crore houses under this scheme is 1, 30, 075 crores. This cost will be borne by the Central Government and the State Government on the basis of 60:40. In the case of North-Eastern states and three Himachal states viz. Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand it is 90: 10 respectively. In the case of Union Territories under the Gramin Awas Yojana 2020, the entire cost will be borne by the Central Government. The central share in the total cost under this scheme will be Rs. 81,975 crore, out of which Rs. 60000 crores is met with budgetary support. And the remaining Rs 21,975 crore will be met by taking a loan from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. Which will be rectified after 2022 with a budgetary grant.

  • Under this scheme, such families should not have any adult members between the age of 16 to 59 years.
  • Female-headed families, with no adult members between the ages of 16 and 59.
  • Families in which there should be no literate adult member above 25 years of age.
  • Families in which a member is a disabled person or in which no adult member is physically competent.
  • Daily landless families.
